This research line aims to diversify the number of species cultured at the Canary Islands. The culture of ornamental or aquariology species has great interest for the low investment and high profitability of the species, which are normally sold by unit. The line is currently focused on 2 seahorse species (Hippocampus hippocampus and Hippocampus reidi) , clown fish and a few local crustacean and coral species. In addition, sustainability and repopulation programs were carried out on H. hippocampus. The research program is focused on the development of specific rearing protocols, nutrition and feeding to improve survival and health, facilitating reproduction in captivity maximizing larvae quality.

This line is funded throw regional and national projects, including collaboration with several regional, national and European aquariums and other institutions.
